I am still standing straight! Cheers!
I lucked out and got a really great class. The kids are nice, fun, funny, smart, and obviously cute. :)
Sure they are all full of energy and are usually bouncing off the walls and we defiantly need to work out listening skills and following directions, but I'm not worried. We'll get there, probably sooner than later. (hopefully)
Here are some fun activities we did the first week of school. We really concentrated on behavior skills, listening skills, rules and procedures.
We can't teach kids how to be good students without reading "No, David!"
It's a must!
My favorite saying is "Don't act like a David"
I sure hope I never get a kiddo named David.
We are trying to think of one word that describes ourselves. It is really pushing the older kids and their vocabulary. In kindergarten we are just trying to figure out our names. :)
I started the lesson off by reading the books "A Bad Case of the Stripes" and "I Like Myself".
These are great books that tell kids that it is okay to be different and to be themselves.
After reading the books, I asked my kids, "who are you?" They of course answered with their names or their gender. I had to change it to, finish the sentence. I am...
We got a lot of smart, which was great!
I'll post next week the final product of our schools "I AM" project.

Art is super important to me as a teacher and person.
Our school doesn't have an art teacher, so it is our responsibility to teach art. I feel like it's simple to do because you can do an art project for just about anything you are learning.
This year our theme is owls. I found this art project on Pinterest and fell in love.
I love the different kind of media used. I thought it was fun to paint on something other than regular paper.
This was really simple too. I used a template to cut all the kids owls out, ketchup cups for the eyes, and glitter, glitter, glitter. I could have let the kids cut the owls out, but with fine motor not being top notch and newspaper tearing easy, it was easier for me to do it. Believe me, I let the kids cut enough...

We ended our week with a MINI field trip. We went down the street to the Anna Miller Museum.
This is our local museum and has a lot of local history. The kids got to run, play, discover, and of course learn a little about the town they live in. It was fun to get out of the school and let the kids do something local.
Their favorite part was listening to the old school bell ring. It was so LOUD..
